What is DCV Pool Manager (DPM)?

DPM is DCV‘s native session and fleet management layer. It sits in front of your DCV servers and handles user access, connection brokering, pool assignment, session monitoring, and server operations: all from one browser-based dashboard. Think of DCV as the engine and DPM as the fleet manager.

Do I need to install agents on my DCV servers?

No. DPM works agentless: it integrates directly with DCV Connection Gateway, so your DCV servers never need to be exposed to the internet.

The optional DPM Agent adds single sign-on, log collection, and a local health page where an administrator can inspect a DCV server directly, independently of the DPM dashboard.

Can I try DPM for free?

How much does DPM cost?

DPM is priced at $90/seat/year: the same as DCV. If you’re already running DCV, you can add fleet management at no additional complexity cost. A DCV + DPM bundle is also available.

How is DPM different from a generic connection broker?

Generic brokers treat DCV as one protocol among many. DPM is purpose-built for DCV by DCV specialists: it understands DCV session failures, collects DCV host logs (no SSH access needed), syncs DCV server parameters across your fleet, and tracks DCV versions across servers. The result is deeper monitoring, faster diagnostics, and tighter integration than any protocol-agnostic tool can offer.

How FAST CAN DPM BE DEPLOYED?

DPM runs as a Docker or Podman container stack in your DMZ: no per-server installation, no RHEL-specific dependencies.

A typical first deployment, from zero to a working pool with users and workstations, takes around 10 to 15 minutes.

What authentication methods does DPM support?

MFA, LDAP, Active Directory, SAML, OIDC, RADIUS, PAM, Kerberos SSO (Windows and Linux, with no second password prompt), privacyIDEA, and local users.

Does DPM only work with DCV?

DCV is the primary protocol and where DPM goes deepest. It also supports RGS (beta), SSH, and Web RDP, so mixed environments are covered.

I already have DCV running. How hard is it to add DPM?

New Local console: the DPM Host Agent can serve an administrator page on the DCV server itself — overview and health, DCV sessions (create and close), service restarts, logs and local settings — with sign-in by an operating-system administrator account. It is off by default and turned on per host from the Agents page; off means nothing listens. It replaces the separate NI SP DCV Windows Management service. Requires DPM Host Agent 0.11.0 (Linux) or 0.10.0 (Windows).
New Sync Parameters: a rule can now lock the local mouse, touchpad, keyboard and USB storage of the servers it covers while a DCV session is live, so nobody at the physical machine can interfere with the remote user. DCV’s own remote input is never blocked. The new Device lock panel shows what each host reports. Requires the same agent versions.
New One Gateway page: Management > Gateway gathers every gateway DPM installs behind one name, with one protocol dropdown — DCV always, and RGS, RDP and SSH once their service is enabled. Adding a gateway, tuning the fleet and downloading its installer now happen in one place instead of four Settings pages, which no longer list them.
New DPM Logs: collect logs from your DPM Gateway hosts (the RGS / RDP gateway) and download them, keep a time-limited link or send them to NI SP Support. Requires DPM Gateway 0.3.0.
New DPM Logs: follow the DPM Gateway log and other relevant operating system logs live, with a filter by log tag. A host that runs both the RGS and the RDP profile appears once per profile.
New Agentic Support and Send to Support can now attach DPM Gateway log bundles alongside DCV server and DCV gateway bundles.
Change Log bundles never carry a private key: the DPM Host Agent for Linux (0.10.0), the DPM Host Agent for Windows (0.9.1), the DPM Gateway Agent and the DPM Gateway all skip any PEM private key found in a collected directory and list it in the bundle manifest. Bundles collected by Linux agents before 0.10.0 include the contents of /etc/dcv; delete them from Insights > Logs and rotate any key that was stored there.
Change Naming: the agent on your DCV servers is now the DPM Host Agent, and the two gateway log sources on the Logs page are now DPM Gateway (DCV) and DPM Gateway (RGS / RDP). Display names only — nothing to reinstall, and no setting, download or API path changed.
Change Security: downloading a DCV gateway installer now needs the gateway write permission, matching the RGS, RDP and SSH bundles — the package carries service credentials, an enrollment ticket and, if you configured one, your TLS private key. Installer endpoints are also refused while their service is disabled, which the DCV ones previously were not.
Enhancement Actions taken on a host’s local console — creating or closing a session, restarting a service, changing a setting, unlocking devices — appear in the DPM audit log under the local account that took them.
Enhancement Gateway installers can be re-issued one gateway at a time, for DCV and SSH as well as RGS and RDP. Re-issuing one gateway no longer rebuilds every other package or re-mints its enrollment ticket.
Enhancement The DPM Gateway Agent (0.4.0) and the DPM Gateway (0.3.0) now share one log engine, so log collection and live log behave the same everywhere and future services get both features for free.
Enhancement A DPM Gateway that polls slowly is no longer reported offline: the online threshold now follows its configured poll interval.
Enhancement The DPM Host Agent for Linux (0.10.0) runs its log collection and live log on the same shared engine; bundles and the live view are unchanged.
Enhancement DPM Host Agent for Windows 0.9.2: a silent upgrade keeps the host’s deployment profile instead of re-deciding it, and no longer warns about an FQDN change that did not happen.
Enhancement DPM Gateway Agent 0.4.1: a live log opened in the same moment as a self-update now starts after the restart instead of being dropped.
Enhancement Logs > DCV: a second Collect logs request for a host whose collection is already running is refused right away, as it is for gateways, instead of queueing a job the agent would answer busy.
Enhancement Documentation: Export Section and Export All now produce a PDF 2.0 file (ISO 32000-2) that DPM renders itself, with page numbers and consistent layout. Previously the buttons opened your browser’s print dialog, so the file was whatever version that browser produced — between PDF 1.3 and 1.7 depending on the browser — and DPM had no say in it.
Enhancement AD/LDAP: on OpenLDAP, 389-DS and FreeIPA, new and changed users now appear within one poll: DPM reads changes by modifyTimestamp. Deleted users leave the lists at the next full sync, now set under Settings > AD/LDAP > Full sync interval (default 10 minutes).
Enhancement DPM Host Agent for Windows 0.12.2: the remote desktop software check also reports NVIDIA RTX Desktop Manager, installed or running.
Fix Agentic Support: attaching fresh logs from two DPM Gateway definitions that share a host (RGS + RDP) collected them at the same moment, so the second was refused as already running; they now collect one after the other, and a failed row names its reason.
Fix Documentation: exporting the whole manual no longer includes sections for features this installation does not have enabled. The export now follows the same list as the section menu and the search box.
Fix AD/LDAP: DirSync now works when the base DN is an OU or container such as CN=Users. Active Directory and Samba only accept DirSync at the top of the domain, so DPM now reads changes there and keeps only the users under your base DN. It used to fall back to a full directory read every minute and blame a missing permission.
